home sweet home

[necklace: American Eagle Outfitters | striped tank: City Uptown | red silk bubble skirt: Kenneth Cole | gladiator sandals: H&M]

It's good to be back! I just flew back into Toronto this morning from my little vacation in New York City. It was so much fun, but I'm pretty tired now. We did a lot of walking. I'll share my trip photos with you guys over the next few posts (and outfits too), so keep an eye out for them!

The outfit was actually from the weekend before and you've probably noticed by now I almost always have glasses on and my hair down. So why did I switch it up for contact lenses and my hair done up in a bun? I went wedding dress shopping! I wish I could share what dress I said yes to, but Bee reads this blog, so the big reveal will have to wait until next year!

don't leave me standing with my heart in my hand

[white lace dress: Zara | black flats: Gap | faux leather tie belt : H&M | bracelet ring :  Forever 21 ]

This Zara dress from last winter is my favourite dress! It doesn't get out of my closet much because of how delicate it is. I normally don't put up with such high maintenance articles of clothing but all the details about it gave me a reason to compromise. The last time I wore it was back in January, in this post. I prefer the summer version since I don't have to hide it under a blazer. How much more picture heavy this post is should tell you how much I love this dress.

Since the dress is white and lace and just about as feminine a dress could be, I used slightly edgier accessories. I borrowed the tie belt from a pair of shorts and a more unique piece of jewelry. I love this bracelet and ring combo (anyone know the proper term?) because of how the chain drapes.

The Olympics have officially started! So today's red and white colour themed post is in support of Team Canada. I'm excited to watch volleyball, beach volleyball, track and field and various other events. I have the utmost respect for the athletes. They have been training for 4 years for this event and that kind of dedication isn't easy.

Are you as excited for the games as I am? What will you be watching and which countries are you cheering for?

i'm leaving on a jet plane

[hat: Talula (Aritzia) | navy lace top & shorts: H&M | bag: Gucci | oxford shoes: ALDO]

I love this H&M top that I got a few seasons ago, but I actually don't wear it that often. I think it's the shorter length and the boxy fit that deters me. I always find getting the right bottoms to match it a challenge. However, I am really liking it paired up with shorts. I was kinda in a rush that day to meet M and just threw this outfit together. Sometimes, unexpected outfit combos happen this way!

So in other news, I'm pretty excited right now because by this time tomorrow I will be in New York City! Looking forward to eating tasty things, shopping and just taking in the city with Bee. It will be his first time there! Time to get packing!

you are a rock upon which i stand

[mint peter pan blouse: Zara | floral skirt: Forever21 | black cardigan: H&M | white leather flats: Joe Fresh]

A fellow food lover and blogger, Vickie, said I needed to smile more in my posts, and it so happened that on that same day, J and I took these. I'm actually annoyingly energetic with a permanent grin plastered to my face in real life haha but that likely doesn't come across in the photos I put up for the blog.

Does the blouse look familiar? It is actually the one seen here and here, only worn backwards now. When I saw it in Zara the button detail down the back was the second thing that caught my eye (after the mint colour of course). I knew it would become a reversible shirt for me. Versatile pieces keep me coming back because there are so many ways to play around with them. On weekends I definitely regress a little and dress on the younger side. Honestly once I hit 30 in 4 years I might need an intervention to encourage me to stop dressing like a school girl haha...

On a random note, since I'm obsessed with, I thought it would be nice to end this post with some of my favourite shots. If you have it follow me @cinna_min and if not you can see daily pictures from my life online on These were all taken with my super high-tech Ipod Touch haha! Honestly equipment doesn't have to be everything when it comes to photography.

i am a wild one tame me now

' [leopard romper worn as top, silver belt, and bracelet: H&M | teal skirt and spike necklace: Forever21 | grey long short sleeve cardigan: Zara | leopard flats: GAP | polish: Revlon - Minted ]

This romper is from one of my first posts last September (hard to believe its almost been a year since J and I started this blog). It really hasn't seen the outside of my closet much since because of the aforementioned complexities that involve going to the washroom, but every now and then I feel a need for animal print. If you asked me just a few years ago how I felt about animal prints, I likely would have made a stank face. When it comes to clothes, I always end up eating my own words! So I've come to learn I should give everything a chance before dismissing it. Layering a skirt over tunics, rompers, or dresses is a simple way to change up a look and extend a hemline when needed.

Still looking and feeling worn out so I will keep this one brief and mention only one last thing.
The Dark Knight Rises is finally out!!!! *fan girl moment* I made plans to watch it next weekend so the anticipation is killing me. I don't think it can surpass TDK but I'm sure Christopher Nolan created something amazing to end his series. Have you watched the movie?

that was then and this is now

[crochet lace necklace & chambray shirt: Forever 21 | mustard maxi skirt: Topshop | gold cuff: Banana Republic | bag: Louis Vuitton (Tivoli GM)]

I know M and I usually post on alternate days, but I am filling in for her today! This is probably one of the main reasons we blog together, sometimes life happens and it's nice to have another person that can fill in for you.

I wore this outfit to catch a movie with a friend last week. I get cold easily in theaters, so I decided to cover up and stay warm during the movie! In case you were wondering, I went to see Katy Perry: Part of Me (not my idea!! My friend just wanted company haha). It was better than I expected. I'm not a huge Katy Perry fan, but I don't hate her either. I also specifically choose to take my giant Louis Vuitton bag with me so I could smuggle snacks into the theater. Don't judge! I'm sure you've done it too, haha.

when you feel so tired but you can't sleep

[sequinned striped tee: Joe Fresh | coral printed shorts: GAP | gladiator sandals: H&M | purse: Rebecca Minkoff (MAC Mini)]

Man, I look so tired and my hair is a mess in this photo, but that's what spending time outside in the heat and humidity can do to you! I wore this outfit to a friend's birthday party at The Ballroom last Saturday. It was hard to resist the urge to dress up, but a girl's got to be a bit more practical if she's going to go bowling later right? Unfortunately for me, I ate something during dinner that triggered an allergic reaction that night and didn't end up bowling at all! I have no known food allergies (until now apparently) and what started out as a seemingly mild reaction, a few hours later, turned into something severe. Needless to say, I spent 4 hours in ER that night hooked up to an IV. I'm okay now, but will be finding out in the next few weeks what I'm allergic to. Talk about an eventful weekend!

Anyways enough about my allergy drama, here's a random shot of me (pretending to) play a colourful piano I discovered while wandering around Queen's Quay. More about this fun art installation here:!

pushed away, i'm pulled toward...

[beige and black two toned blouse, faux leather stripe leggings, accessories: H&M | yellow belt: Joe Fresh | bow flats: Liz Claiborne ]

Goodbye weekends! After 4 days of being on the market, a buyer made an offer for the townhouse, so now the countdown to my move begins. It is amazing how much stuff one can accumulate, especially if you are sentimental and have been keeping mementos like greeting cards and letters for over a decade. Beside downsizing my possessions likely my other spare time will be dedicated to condo hunting.

On to the real subject of this post, taking a break from my normal colourful outfits, I wore this very simple and neutral one the past week. I picked up this two-tone sleeveless blouse from H&M last month. It almost went back to the store, but ultimately it's split personality spoke to me (haha)! Shirts and pants that are two toned are also good for concealing the extra pounds gained from stress eating. Especially if black is one of the tones since it tricks the eye and gives a more slimming effect. Dressing for your body type can make a world of difference in how you look, but since my clothes aren't fitting as loosely as normal, I will be getting to know my treadmill again.

and i wrote two hundred letters i will never send

[white chiffon top: M for Mendocino | black pants: Zara | jewellery: Forever 21 | heels: Louboutin (Simple Pump 85mm) | bag: Michael Kors (Joan satchel)]

I wore this outfit for an event on the rooftop lounge at the Thompson Hotel last week. I must say, the view is amazing from up there! I didn't stay for long (too many people for such a small space) and ended up at a nearby pub with my cousin (thanks for shooting for me! <3) and some of her friends. Good times!

I wish I could show the fabric detail of the trousers I'm wearing as I am so in love with them! They have a subtle floral, almost brocade-like print on them. Somewhat like a grandmother's couch? Hahaha.  I like what I like! No shame about it.

Side note: it was a fairly hot day, I don't know how I managed to be outside mostly covered up like this! The things I do for fashion.

so come on and give me a chance

[blush pink drape blouse and navy blue pants: H&M | yellow cropped cardigan: GAP | bow flats: Liz Clairborne | yellow neon necklace: Forever 21 ]

An outfit from my draft folder today because I haven't had a chance for any get any shots for over a week now. My place is currently staged for potential buyers so pretty much everything is put away. My mornings are taking twice as long now. This was something I wore to work a few weeks back. As always colours are my favourite thing to play with. Sometimes it works better than others, but I do like trying out unusual combinations. Although often it is a result of hitting snooze one too many times and just reaching and grabbing anything from my closet. Neon and pastels are a fun mix.

I've been trying to juggle one too many things lately and am feeling burnt out again. It would be amazing if I had an off button for caring about things, because even when I don't want to, I do. Once things settle down in a few months, I'm will definitely be taking some time off to travel. Intrepid has some amazing trips across the world, so if I get too lazy to research, I might just book a tour. They have everything from camping in the Gobi desert to trekking in the Khao Sok Jungle (both on my bucket list). The site is a bit dangerous for me because I keep finding myself fantasizing about the tours that last over 100 days.

Have you travelled anywhere this year? If so where? If not where are you dying to go?

but I won't hesitate no more

[studded headband: GAP | black shirtdress: Helmut Lang | neon belt: Forever 21 | purse: Rebecca Minkoff (MAC Mini) | gladiator sandals: H&M]

I bought this shirtdress during the Boxing Day (week, rather) sales last year and it was sadly forgotten under other clothes in my dresser...Until now! Simple and easy to wear, this shirtdress will probably fall into my "lazy summer wear" rotation. I added a belt to give myself a bit more shape and to add a pop of colour.

So July seems to be shaping up to be a busy month. I am slightly overwhelmed by the things I have marked down on my calendar, between social gatherings, birthdays, a concert, and a trip to New York City, I am also in the midst of wedding planning. I am trying to get the big things booked (venue!!!) before all the fall wedding shows roll around.

i was sure words had failed us

[coral dress and silver skinny belt: H&M | white leather flats: Joe Fresh ]

So aside from mint can you tell what my other colour obsession has been? This is the third time I'm posting this dress. Finally no additional layers are needed to wear it out. It's perfect for those hot and humid summer days! Other than the colour, my favourite part is how flowy the skirt is. The fabric has tons of movement when you walk and when a breeze blows by. I wear shorts underneath to prevent any Marilyn Monroe moments (which thanks to windy TTC entry ways I've had my fair share of in the past).

Summer tends to bring out lots of fashion faux pas! In particular this year I feel like tops have gotten a size or two smaller. Am I the only one who feels that I shouldn't be able to see where belly buttons are because a shirt is so taunt across someone's belly?

In other news, next week my townhouse (technically my mom's, but she moved out 2.5 years ago) is going on the market! I'm a master procrastinator so I haven't even starting putting any thought into my living situation at the end of summer. Just the thought of packing everything gives me a sense of dread.

answer no to these questions

[black and white tuxedo blazer & gold necklace: H&M | polka dot shirt: Forever 21 | black pencil skirt: Zara | flats: Sam Edelman | bag: Michael Kors (Joan satchel)]

Please excuse the deer-in-headlights expression on my face, this was the best photo that shows the details of the pencil skirt I'm wearing! I picked up the skirt from Zara awhile back and thought it would make a great basic addition to my wardrobe that still had some fun details to it. I love the white waist-band, the longer hem-line in the back and of course the peek of white fabric from the inside of the skirt.

Looking at this outfit makes me feel kind of sweaty as it is another sweltering day outside, but I guess that's the thing with Toronto summers. When it's not blazing hot outside, it's cool enough to wear a blazer.

I've noticed that my posts have been becoming shorter and shorter lately. I think I'm suffering from a mixture of writer's block and being too preoccupied with the going-ons in my life. Sorry!

would you lie with me and just forget the world?

[navy striped tee: Forever 21 | mint shorts: H&M | white leather flats: Joe Fresh ]

Notice anything different? So last week, on one of my walks from work to the subway, I decided I needed a new hair colour (but really who doesn't walk by drugstore and suddenly feel the urge to go "deep purple"? no? just me?). Indoors and in regular lighting it looks darker in tone but in direct sunlight it's a mishmash of orange, red, and plum with hints of violet. Suits me pretty well! From far away its seemingly "normal" but on a closer look its a bit more eccentric. I've come to terms with my randomness and would like to think, despite evidence of the contrary, that its a part of my charm haha.

This is what I wore to go see Seeking a Friend for the End of the World over the weekend. So I've banned myself from any more mint clothing purchases because I went from 0 to 6 over the last couple months. Really I've just convinced myself that mint goes with almost everything. The nautical striped top you have already seen here. I try to always pair tighter and shorter bottoms with baggier tops so that it looks more visually balanced.

As for the movie, it didn't get very good reviews but I still found it enjoyable. The tone of the movie actually starts darker and has a heavier mood before getting lighter near the end, which is interesting because from the title you know how it ends. I like character driven movies set in a pseudo-reality, like our world but not (better examples are indie films, Another Earth and Never Let Me Go.) Despite my preference for unhappy endings, I suspect I'm still secretly a romantic haha. Overall I actually have a pretty wide taste in movies, I want to I mean babysit someone's children so I have a legitimate excuse to watch Madagascar 3 LOL.

Have you seen any good movies lately? Recommend some in the comments if there are any I should watch!

until monday morning feels another life

[white straw hat: Club Monaco (stolen from mom) | red dress: Rachel Rachel Roy (The Bay) | gladiator sandals: H&M | bag: Michael Kors (Joan satchel)]

My dress has pockets! And yes, I am attempting to fish something out of there lol.

As M mentioned in her last post, I hope you aren't tired of sundresses, shorts and tees yet...Because here is another hot summer day outfit post.

My other summer staple? Hats. Since I'm pretty much blind without my glasses (and too lazy to wear contacts all the time), hats are always my first choice over sunglasses to keep the sun out of my eyes.

So today I was suppose to have a beach date with M, but I caught a cold!! Yes, a cold. In July. When it has pretty much been 35C+ every day for the last while. Talk about not being able to enjoy a long weekend. *sadface*

Wow, I really need a haircut, haha.
