you'll never be mine, but you've got my eyes

[white sleeveless blouse: Zara | pattern shorts, yellow satchel, flats: H&M | polish: Revlon - Minted ]

Happy Canada Day long weekend fellow Canadians! This week was dragging on and on and I feel like every inch of me is exhausted. Needless to say I've been looking forward to today all week.

This morning I went to the opening day of MOVE: The Transportation Expo to shoot some pictures for Evergreen. Certain spaces and places draw me, I could take endless of photos of the Brick Works and never be bored. The exhibit is actually really interesting and addresses how cities all over the world deal with getting people around.

This outfit is actually from last weekend when I was out running errands. Thin breathable fabrics are lifesavers in summer. While I love hot weather, the blog will likely suffer from the heat. There is only so much variety when layering stops being an option. Hope you aren't tired of sundresses and tees and shorts yet because there will be lots more of those posts coming your way.

J and I have a beach date on Monday. Can't wait to kick back and just enjoy the sun.
What are you doing / what did you do for Canada Day? Off the top of my head I can name at least 5-7 things happening in Toronto on July 1st!

lazy weekends

Switching up the style of the post today! So it just so happens that I have some photos (that show my whole outfits!) from the past two weekends...

At the AGO
[black motorcycle jacket: Mexx (super old!) | striped tank: City Uptown | mustard maxi skirt: Topshop | flats: Sam Edelman]

On Father's Day I had a daddy-daughter date with my dad at the Art Gallery to check out the new Picasso exhibit. He loved it! My dad loves art and art history. The picture above was taken somewhere in the contemporary gallery, he really liked that piece I'm standing in front of, hehe.

At the cottage
[white straw hat: Club Monaco | mint striped top: Forever 21 | denim shorts: American Eagle Outfitters | shoes: H&M]

As per my last post, last weekend was spent up in the Kawartha Lakes in a rented cottage with nine friends. My friend remarked via Facebook that this is probably one of the most casual outfits she's ever seen me in! I'm not going to lie, it was a struggle packing cottage-appropriate outfits. Most people struggle with finding outfits for an event, that's never the case for me! This photo was from the morning we were leaving the cottage and coincidently, the worst day weather-wise of the whole weekend. Hence the gloomy sky behind me. The rest of the weekend however was blue skies, sunshine, slight winds and perfect temperatures. Couldn't have asked for a better weather!

So speaking of weekends, a long weekend is coming up for us Canadians (and Americans too, I think). What does everyone have planned?

you're gonna question whether you really knew me at all

[denim shirt: Forever 21 | mint pants and silver belt: H&M | leopard flats: GAP]

Celebratory dance for finally finding the perfect pale mint coloured pants at H&M! Haha yes that is how wild my life is, pants are a cause for excitement. Not much to say about the outfit today other than the obvious, I'm mint obsessed! I think it is such a perfect colour for spring and summer and pairs great with other warm weather items like denim button-downs.

On a more random note, my favourite bloggers are the ones that really let readers get a sense of who they are and genuinely share pieces of lives on their blogs. It's kind of crazy how emotionally connected you can feel to someone that you've never even met in person just by reading their blog. In the interest of opening up to the few followers that we have, I'm doing my version of the 11-random-facts-blogger-tag.

It's a list of things that lots of people know about me to things that very few people know about me. Word of warning, if personal subjects makes you uncomfortable, skip the last 3 items.

1. My sense of humour is very random, cheesy, and can be pretty crude.
The Oatmeal never fails to crack me up (especially the pig comic!)
I'm basically get as easily amused and as quickly driven to laughter as a toddler (oh the Hue-manatee).
2. I have a slight case of side-walk rage.
The pedestrian version of road rage. I walk faster than the average person. Slow walkers or people who stop suddenly in-front of me really bother me. Outwardly I'm smiling and saying excuse me, inside I'm yelling OUTTA MY WAY! LOL
(Side note: I've walked the entire TTC bloor-danforth (green) subway line twice! It takes 7-8 hours with breaks and I'm looking for takers to do it again this year)
3. I'm a nerd/geek!
Star Wars, Harry Potter, A Song of Ice and Fire, comic book heroes, anime, internet memes are all <3s.
By the end of my lifetime, I'm sure the amount of time I spent on the internet will be measurable in years.
The awkward nerdy characters are generally my favourites!
4. I rarely address people I like by their real name.
This is how you can tell if you are more than just an acquaintance.
J, aka Jellofer, can account for the fact that I've done this since high school.
They normally don't make sense and sometimes just Mr/Mrs *insert semi-description about you* haha but still more fun than just your real name :)
5. I believe holding things up to my eyes during scary movies/TV shows protects me.
Scary movies/TV shows turn me into a BIG CHICKEN. I can only make it to the end if I have a pillow, blanket, jacket, or basically anything I can hold up to my face and watch from behind of.
6. I genuinely don't care about money.
I never check my pay stubs. I've left cheques un-cashed before.
I work harder and for longer hours in positions that earn less income. As long as I can pay my bills I'm more than happy.
7. If I could be anyone for a day, it would be Anthony Bourdain! (maybe make that day, a week or a month)
His life is the culmination of my two biggest loves! Food and travel. Not to mention he is just overall a awesome person with a super dry sense of humour and complete disregard for how others see him.
8. I didn't own a single dress or skirt until my final year in University.
Despite how it might seem from this blog, I actually not as acquainted with my feminine side as most people would guess. I was a tomboy growing up and am still one at heart now.
9. Most of the time I don't know what I really want.
After 26 years, I'm still not quite sure of who I am or what I want to do with my life. A lot of the decisions/choices I made in my late teens and early twenties stemmed from being the only child of a single parent. Ever since my mother re-married 2 years ago I've been trying to figure what it is that I really want.
Indecisiveness is my kryptonite.
10. I know what depression feels like.
I went through it when I was 19 and fortunately pulled myself out of it after a few months. Feeling like you are completely alone, losing interest in everything you hold most dear, and not seeing a reason for getting up in the morning are some of the scariest things you can experience as a human being.
11. One of my biggest fears is becoming like the one person who I have spent the majority of my life trying to distance myself from.

Congratulations if you made it through the whole post (being concise is clearly not my forte)! Don't worry it'll be back to the regularly scheduled program on the next post.

Do any of my random facts speak to you? (haha) Do we have anything in common?

driving slow on sunday morning

[black tail top: Mikkat Market | coral printed shorts: GAP | gladiator sandals: H&M]

Hey everyone! I'm currently blogging from the cottage up at the Kawartha Lakes, hehe (Internet provided by tethering Bee's phone <3). I've been here since Friday and the weather has been amazing. Not too hot, not too cold, but soooo many mosquitos at night.

Speaking of weather, this outfit shot was taken during last week's heatwave. Hot weather calls for simple, easy clothing. A breezy top, a pair of shorts, sandals, a ponytail and I'm good to go.

Well, I'm going to keep this short because I'm off to enjoy to the rest of my time here!

yeah the truth is, that i miss you so

[dress: H&M | flats: GAP]

Starting to notice that my "signature look" on the blog is just looking down...haha. I haven't felt like looking at the camera as much lately.

Summer came in to Toronto full force this year in the form of a "heatwave". Quotes are being used because so far I haven't had to turn on a fan once, but every other single person seems to find the temperature unbearable. I adore hot weather and don't feel its effects until it hits over 40. I spend most of Winter complaining about the cold, so you won't hear a peep out of me during summer. Sundresses are just so easy to throw on in the morning, which lets me hit the snooze button once or twice more in the morning.

My favourite part of the warm temperature is having the excuse to consume A TON of frozen goodies. Amongst several others, J can testify that I have spent entire days eating nothing but gelato, froyo, and popsicles. (My current top pick is Salted Caramel froyo!) There is no faster way to bond with me or quicker way to cheer me up than with an iced treat. This years intake has, beyond a doubt, been higher than before.

I am also looking forward to all the clich√© summertime fun; beach days, barbecues, patios, and just being outdoors as much as possible.

What are your favourite things about summer?

watch the sunrise, say your goodbyes

Hello first day of summer! Here in Toronto, summer is welcoming us with a heatwave, it is sweltering outside! I hope everyone is keeping cool!

When the peplum trend exploded this spring (and looks like it will go strong into the fall), I wasn't a fan. In fact, I'm still not, but I made an exception for this top. The bottom isn't too dramatically flared and the print/colour combo is cute, but what really sold me was the back of the shirt. The waist band ties into a bow just below a lower back cut-out. It also has some cute button details! I had tried to get some back shots of it, but they didn't come out nice. I'll try for some again next time!

[polka dot peplum top: Dorothy Perkins (The Bay) | grey cotton skirt: H&M | gold sandals: Tahari | bag: Michael Kors (Joan satchel)]

Looking forward to the weekend, I'm off to the cottage with some friends. Should be a great time!

when all the baggage just ain't as heavy

[vest and pants: H&M | blouse: Forever 21 | flats: Pure]

This was an OOTD back from May that I just haven't had a chance to post. It was likely forgotten because it's just a neutral work outfit. I definitely haven't been putting much effort into getting dressed for the office these last couple of weeks. There are some mornings that I am just honestly too tired to think and just reach for whatever is within arms length. Against better judgement I pack my schedule to make the most of the short-lived warm weather we have in Canada. Today I'm only pseudo-functional because I decided it was a good idea to play indoor beach volleyball on Friday until 2am knowing that I had to get up at 6am on Saturday. (Definitely haven't come to terms with the limits of my stamina!)

Anyways, like I mentioned in my last post, I shop for things that I know can be worn in different ways. The blouse I'm wearing is the same one from this post and this post. I got it because it had a looser fit, which meant the silhouette can easily be changed with a cardigan or vest. White button downs are essentials for my closet, they go with anything and everything. There must be at least 4-5 in my collection of varying materials, sheerness, and sleeve length.

What are some of your must have items for your closet?

baby you don't know me

[necklace: Forever 21 | gold sequinned tank: Joe Fresh | blush pink lace skirt: Mono B (M for Mendocino) | flats: Sam Edelman | purse: Rebecca Minkoff (MAC Mini)]

Super girly outfit today!

If you haven't noticed before on the blog, let me tell you now. I love wearing dresses and skirts of all lengths. They are definitely my bottom of choice in the warmer months. I'm pretty sure I own more skirts than I do pants (jeans included). I know this probably sounds kind of silly (and slightly unpractical?) coming from someone who lives in a place where it is pretty much cold for more than 6 months of the year!

[bracelets: all from Forever 21 except the black one (J.Crew)]

you make me feel like i am free again

[light mint blouse: Zara | abstract splatter skirt and orange belt: H&M | heels: Franco Sarto | cuff pyramid bracelet: Forever21]

Side note: Yes my elbows are just giant bruises from my incorrect diving technique in volleyball. I haven't perfected running and throwing myself at a hardwood court without scrapping some part of myself yet. :(

So finally my OOTD from Scrubs in the City event last Thursday. Carrying a dslr camera body +  a lens + external flash for 4 hours straight = simple outfit. This Zara blouse is pretty great! It has unexpected button detailing down the back, which is not only really "sweet", but also makes the shirt reversible. The more versatile something is the quicker I'm sold on it! I paired it with a more structured skirt that wouldn't get blown up by the wind or drag on the floor when I had to crouch to get a shot. When push comes to shove, I'm more about function than form.

If you live in Toronto and haven't been to the Brick Works, I strongly encourage making a visit. The space is stunning! Here are a few random shots (of the 100+ that I took) from the night. (My "shot list" was really just to capture the venue.)

The last photo is one of Shawn Desman performing. (I now have even more respect for photographers who shoot live events/performances, it is ridiculously hard to get a decent shot!) For me food photography has a slight edge over portraiture, because it's much easier and I get to eat, but I am really enjoying capturing portraits. When I was in university and drawing regularly, it was by far my favourite subject matter. How much you can read and interpret from someone's expression is fascinating!

Has anyone been to a special event lately? Are there any tips or rules you always follow?

'cause there's no one like you in the universe

Wore this outfit for dinner and drinks in celebration of one of Bee's older cousin's birthday on the weekend. In retrospect, I should have worn shorts or a skirt that day because I was boiling in those leggings! Summer weather is definitely upon us once again.

The top was a recent find in the clearance section of runway/new & now (by far, my two most fave departments at Winners). After some googling, I have discovered that Just Female is a Danish label. The line incorporates lots of clean lines and draping, which I love! I look forward to finding more of this label in the future.

up in flames, we have slowly gone

[bright blue blouse: thrifted | grey shorts: Forever21 | yellow skinny belt: Joe Fresh | denim flats: Old Navy]

I haven't had time to go through all the photos from Scrubs in the City yet so I will post those later in the week along with my OOTD from the event. In the interim, these are two shots from yesterday.

By now my love of colour should be pretty evident. I couldn't help but copy J's pictures infront of graffiti when I walked by this wall . I know graffiti is considered vandalism in many cases, but I love the colour and character it brings to urban spaces.

I had a casual day downtown to watch a couple Euro Cup games and grab some good eats. Well, mostly it was fried foods...onion rings, fries, and nachos! I definitely worked it all off playing volleyball today in a gym without any A/C. Anyways, this blouse is still my favourite thrift store find. If you have been reading since the beginning, you saw it in one of my first posts. The bright blue turns any bottom into an instant outfit.

Has anyone else checked out their local thrift stores and been able get some amazing finds?

rain, rain, go away

[black boyfriend blazer: Elizabeth and James | white shirt & bird print scarf: H&M | red jeans: Urban Planet | black rain boots: Marshalls | purse: Rebecca Minkoff (MAC Mini) | birdcage umbrella: Lulu Guinness for Fulton (The Bay)]

The weather has definitely been erratic this past week. My parents ended up turning back on the heat the other day because it got so cold. Now it looks like we will be turning on the A/C as the temperatures will be heating up in the next few days.

Please excuse my tired eyes and messy hair in these photos! This outfit was shot in the evening when the rain had passed and the sun came back out to dry everything up. I hate the rain, but cute rain gear definitely helps! It's hard to tell (because I forgot to position my umbrella optimally for the photo) but my umbrella has a birdcage pattern with a little bird "sitting" inside of it (check it out here). I got my short rain boots for a steal at Marshalls ($20!). These booties are a great alternative for those days where tall rain boots are just too cumbersome to walk around in (and it's not pouring rain outside).

"Yay! no more rain!

Occasionally, I like to pose for cheesy photos :D

you got the sweetest touch

[pink cropped blazer, mint sleeveless hidden button blouse, pants, bracelet : H&M | bow flats: Liz Clairborne | chain necklace: Forever 21]

Spring is synonymous with pastels! I think I posted a while back that I was looking for minty pants to pair with a coral-y pink top. No luck so far, but I did find a light mint and baby pink combo in my closet. I love mixing colours in interesting combinations, since it prevents my work attire from getting too dull and monotonous. These two together make me think of candy and ice cream. :9

Tomorrow night I'm going to Scrubs in the City which is an SickKids fundraising event as the photographer for Evergreen. By no means do I think I'm anywhere remotely close to a professional photog, but I enjoy taking photos and I think Evergreen is a great charity. Having the opportunity to volunteer for them is a fun privilege.

The Brick Works is already an amazing space, so I'm intrigued to see how the event transforms it into a "secret garden" and what kind of "curious creatures" there will be. I'll share a couple of shots in my next post if I'm able to get some good ones.

lift your head to the sky

I wore this outfit the other weekend to meet my cousin for Sunday brunch at The Drake Hotel (I had their fried chicken and waffles, yum)! Was feeling pretty relaxed that morning, so I opted for a casual laid-back outfit. I think I will be getting a lot of wear out of this chambray shirt this summer (last seen in this post), it's the perfect lightweight piece to throw over any outfit.

[chain necklaces: H&M (pink) & Forever 21]

[chambray button down: Forever 21 | pants & cuff: H&M | sandals: ALDO | purse: Rebecca Minkoff (MAC Mini)]

PS. Thanks to Sharon for taking my photos that day! :)

i'm bulletproof, nothing to lose

[white tee, neon yellow gradient scarf, peep-toe flats: H&M | skirt: Club Monaco]

The 80s and neon have definitely come back full force this year. You know you are getting older when things from the decade you were born in are making a come back. Like J, I have been gravitating to neon yellow lately. When you want to test the waters of the latest trend, accessories are an easy way to incorporate them. This scarf makes the whole outfit for me. It is actually a white scarf that gradients into neon yellow ends (only $9.95 in H&M stores right now). If you have been following since the blog first started, I'm sure I've mentioned my scarf obsession before. Rarely can I go more than a few months without adding a new one to my collection. The other two items I'm wearing are both from some initial posts last fall! Skirt seen here and white tee in our very first post

My collection of bruises from volleyball and from just being clumsy is starting to grow! What you see is what you get on this blog, I don't photoshop any photos, other than correct the tone on the ones taken indoors. And in real life, honestly I can't be bothered to wear tights in warm weather and I have no problem with people seeing the battle scars (haha). Have a good weekend all!
