dry my eyes so you don't know

[faux leather moto jacket: Silence and Noise | striped yellow sweater: Old Navy | tank: Forever21 | cobalt blue pants and hair ring: H&M | flats: GAP | polish: Sally Hansen - Mellow Yellow]

I really like primary colours together and in particular, blue and yellow. You can tell I've been fully embracing colour lately! The last couple of weeks have been a bit stressful and and it won't be until the end of next month until I feel my life will return to some form of normalcy. I make a conscious effort to dress brighter to help elevate my mood and to compensate for any drops in energy level.

The weather has been all over the place but I was able to take my new faux leather jacket out of the closet the past weekend. It was one of the buys from boxing day on my annual post-holiday shopping trip with J.

I'm looking forward to having a lazy weekend...or at least as lazy as my schedule will allow!

and no one thinks they are to blame

The weather has been so erratic lately. In my last post I was outside in a sleeveless dress, in this post I'm in a light-ish coat, the day before I wore a parka. Ahh spring.

I always have trouble with dressing for the spring temperaturea. I usually overdress because I hate being cold, but end up regretting it later when I have to lug around my coat because it warmed up so much outside. Therefore, I am always looking for jackets and coats of varying thicknesses so I can be prepared no matter what the weather throws at me. This coat in particular was a sale find from Forever 21 and I scooped it up quickly because it's the doppelganger of this CÉLINE coat! Best part? It only set me back $23 or so.

so hold on tight, it's gonna be a wild wild ride

[tangerine sleeveless blouse - c'est moi | tank: Forever21 | navy pants and pink belt: H&M | flats: GAP]

I picked up this tangerine coloured blouse at from George Brown's City Uptown Store. Kudos to their store buyers who did a great job purchasing items that are so on trend this season from the wholesalers. I love the high-low hem and the tangerine orange colour, reminiscent of Pantone's Tangerine Tango for Spring 2012.

It might be hard to tell but I did get that haircut I mentioned in my last post. For once a hairstylist actually cut less than I asked for. The only thing that kind of looks different is my shorter bangs. I don't even think my mom noticed when she saw me briefly on the weekend.

On another random note, the Hunger Games was pretty good. I loved the book and it was one of the best book-to-movie adaptations I've seen. Granted, I'm more predisposed to like it since narratives set in a dystopian future are my favourite!

[nail polish: Chanel - Miami Peach]

In reference to M's last post, not only did we discover we both wore matching tights on this particular day, but we also both had on neon yellow necklaces too! Coincidentally, M said in the morning she almost put on the same pair of flats as me and had an almost similar shade of nail polish on too (which she removed midway throughout the day).

This is a pretty usual occurrence for us to be honest, it has been like this since we were in high school. Yes, we shop a lot together and sometimes will even buy the same items. Other times we will shop separately and still end up buying the same thing! However, despite this, I don't think we have ever shown up in the exact same outfit before. We definitely have different ways of styling items, so I'd like to say we complement each other well style-wise!

Is this only us? Or do you and your bffs out there experience the same thing?

Twinsies! I'm ending off this post with a rare photo of the two of us together. Special shout out to my girl Sanem for snapping this pic for us!

just close your eyes, the sun is going down

[ruched short sleeve tee: H&M | tiered skirt, necklace, belt, and cuff bracelet: Forever21 | flats: GAP | scalloped lace tights: Sears]

This outfit was all about the tights. I saw J wearing scalloped lace tights on new years eve and was in love! Hers were from H&M, which I remembered seeing in every store for months. Of course by the time I realized I wanted them, they were no where to be found. A few weeks ago I was finally able to find an dupe in the Sears hosiery department. Funny enough, when I met J yesterday to shoot this outfit, she was wearing hers and we looked like twins-es! (thank you ShitGirlsSay for bringing that word into my life lol)

Sorry for looking a bit disheveled. I'm in need of a haircut! On a random note, I'm seeing the 12am screening of The Hunger Games tonight! I read the first book 1-2 years ago and am looking forward to see the movie interpretation!

Also if you are observant you would have noticed a few changes to the blog. I'm keeping my word and making a few tweaks and updates for Spring!

J Loves: Toronto Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012

So another season of fashion week here in Toronto has come and gone! Spring begins today, but we've already been looking at fall/winter clothes...Ah, how quickly time does pass.

I decided to volunteer again this season at World MasterCard Fashion Week and managed to squeeze in a show between classes, work and volunteering! Here are some of my faves of this season:

L - R: David Dixon, VAWK, David Dixon

Sequins!! I love anything that mixes glitz with flowy chiffon. Also, I need that David Dixon coat in my life. Hello lace sleeve details!

Cara Cheung, VAWKKIN, Cara Cheung

More glitter and flowy fabrics at Cara Cheung! I'm curious to see more upcoming seasons of VAWKKIN, VAWK's sister line, looks like there will be a lot of great work-appropriate pieces.

Pavoni, Chloé Comme Parris, Pavoni

Those Pavoni dresses are to die for. A bit Marchesa-esque don't you think? Love.

i get shy in these lights, i feel my pulse doing overtime

[polish: Love Beauty - Blue]

This is a work outfit from the past week. Pleated dresses and skirts were on lots of runways for S/S 2012. This works out well for me because pleats are always in my closet. I love their retro appeal especially with polka dot tights.

My immune system must be a great predictor for the weather! I seem to always feel unwell just as the weather peaks at its best. It has been gorgeous outside for the last week and I've been feeling off since Thursday. Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

you know i dream in colour

[ring: H&M | nail polish: Essie Lilacism, Topshop - Heart of Gold & American Apparel - Meteor Shower]

Hooray! Spring is nearly here! These jeans were a surprise buy from Sirens (a store I haven't visited since high school). I saw them on the mannequin in the window and decided that I needed some baby pink denim in my life, haha.

The socks were a last minute decision in the morning and I decided they would add a small fun detail to my outfit overall. I bought the socks last year and never wore them, mainly because I usually only like to solid wear black or white socks. I can't seem to get into coloured or patterned socks, tights are a different story though.

i don't know what i've done or if i like what i've begun

[ring: Smart Set | polish: Revlon - Make Mine Mango]

I've been wearing this Joe Fresh blouse to death, last seen a couple weeks ago here. Not going to lie, I secretly love polyester shirts. I know they are far from luxurious and have zero breath-ability but I can put them through anything and toss them in any type of wash and they come out looking brand new. There should be nothing wrong with wanting your clothing to be indestructible!

Weekends are for edgier outfits and since there is an expiry date on my wearing short shorts, I plan on making the most of what I can with my remaining time. Still, when I do go for shorter hemlines I typically try to balance the look with tights or long sleeves.

On a random note look for an update to the blog before the end of the month. I've been saying forever that I wanted to add a blogroll and about me pages for J and I but just haven't gotten around to it. I figure if I write it a post, I will feel more obligated to actually do it.

and i got swept away

So this is the first time I wore my new Jason Wu for Target blouse that I picked up from the pop-up shop a few weeks ago. The fit is great on me and I think it looks super cute, but I am sad to say that it has already ripped. The back arm/shoulder seams are falling apart. I cannot believe how poorly made this shirt was. I didn't even get a full day's wear out of it. It may not even be reparable since the fabric is fraying where it ripped. Boo.

Now I am hunting for a replacement in a similar colour.

everything i'm not made me everything i am

[dress: H&M | cardigan and necklace: Forever 21 | flats and tights: GAP]

So I mentioned a few posts ago that I already purchased 2 sundresses, here is one of them. The colour drew me in and I was lucky enough to get one of the last small. It has pockets, a collar, and a gathered waist. This dress would flatter all shapes, sizes and colours (though I will admit, it is on the shorter side).

I like it layered but I'm also dying to wear it on its own once July & August comes around. Summer is still months away and I miss it dearly. My relationship with ice cream, gelato, and frozen yogurt suffers greatly in the colder months and I can't wait to reignite those flames! (LOL)
Seriously though, despite living in Canada for the majority of my life, I swear I'm built for a warmer climate. Last year I travelled to Thailand during one of their hottest months and LOVED the 40+ weather. When I got back to Toronto, it was 20-something and it felt like winter to me in comparison.

dream away everyday

[turtleneck: Joe Fresh  | vest: H&M | belt: Jacob | skirt: City Downtown (George Brown College) | boots: Michael Kors]

We've been having such a mild winter here in the city that this is the first time I've actually worn a turtleneck all season. With that being said, spring is almost here so it looks like the turtleneck will be going back into my dresser until next winter.

So, for every time I wear this faux fur vest, I will get at least one or two questions from guys asking me "is it real?" and "what did you kill to get that thing you're wearing?". Boys, they will never understand!

[nail polish: Essie - Lilacism, Essie - Pop Art Pink & American Apparel - Factory Grey]

More nail art fun with scotch tape! Pinterest has been an endless source of nail art ideas for me lately. Next time I think I'm going to replace the grey with mint green instead.

Fun fact! This outfit was shot the same day as M's outfit in the previous post. We unintentionally coordinated matching outfits in black and white/cream with a leopard accent. That's when you know you are bff's, haha.

make out like it never happened

[blouse: Zara | pants and flats: GAP | suspenders: H&M]

Before finding the perfect pair of suspender shorts (in this post), I purchased these suspenders from H&M. They add a bit of fun to a basic black and white outfit. I don't just love men's sweaters, I love their accessories as well. Suspenders serve as a nice balance to a feminine blouse (fondly referred to as the Seinfeld pirate shirt).

I feel like I'm in a bit of a style rut or it could be a work clothing style rut. Looking back on my posts in 2012 so far, I find my outfits overall a bit on the boring and bland side. J and I shoot most of our outfits during the week. Now that the weather is starting to warm up, I will try to get a few more weekend posts, just so I can mix things up a bit.

i don't know how i got so tangled up

Tired of seeing M and I wear red pants yet? Haha. Don't worry, other colours will make an appearance soon!

Simple outfit today dressed up with a lot of jewellery. I'm having terrible writer's block today, so please excuse my lack writing for this post. I guess I'm just a bit burnt out from all the studying I've been doing. Next week is going to be a busy week!

all i gave you was goodbye

[blouse: Joe Fresh | skirt: Forever 21 | necklace: H&M | tights and flats: Gap]

My brain can not comprehend the face that it is March already!
This was a casual outfit I wore this past weekend when I went out for Japanese food. I don't believe that having a laid back sense of style means that your clothing has to be boring. It doesn't always have to be about layering. Embracing colour and pairing them together can make the simplest of outfits look visually more interesting.
If you are hesitant about colours, just introduce them a little at a time. Literally every store is carrying colours for Spring/Summer and there are tons of bargains to be found. I wore this skirt in this post as well, and it is definitely worth the less-than-$15-price-tag! Come to think of it, my blouse was only around $15 as well. For a mere $30 you can foray into the "colour-blocking" world.

On a side note: only one photo since I attempted shooting outside sans jacket. I don't know how other bloggers do it! It was far too windy and I could only bare a few minutes.

[polish: China Glaze - Recycle with American Apparel - Rose Bowl]

Modern twists on the French tip mani, yay or nay? I've been enjoying experimenting with colours.
