come on and open up your mind and see like me

Hello new favourite sweater! My sweater is by a Canadian knitwear label called LINE Knitwear. I am so in love the with detail of the back of it. The downside is that so is everyone else! People are really drawn to touching the braided section, it gets a little weird after awhile haha.

To be honest, I am not a huge fan of wearing sweaters, but the idea of layering them over button-downs is really starting to appeal to me for the upcoming fall/winter season. This sweater in particular will be good for that purpose since it's slightly cropped.

you're on the road but you've got no destination

I share Garfield's sentiments about Mondays. With the coming of the winter season, I find it harder and harder to will myself out of bed in the A.M.
As I am writing this post, I'm blinking rapidly trying to get the sleep out of my eyes. If someone gave me a warm down blanket right now, I would have no trouble falling asleep on the floor right now. I also somehow left the house without my wallet today...most likely has something to do with the sleepliness.

Anyways, here is an outfit from a couple weeks ago when I could still tolerate wearing skirts without tights. The top is actually a hand me down from my mom. It was on its way to the donation bin, so I just took it out for a few more last spins. I like the sleeve detail. When I look at photos of my mom in her 20s, it seems like blouses with billowy sleeves that taper at the wrist were the IT item. I like how feminine womens clothing seemed back then.

J Buys: Versace for H&M

hm versace1

So I did it.

Last Saturday, I woke up at some ungodly hour (3:50 am) and hauled myself to Yorkdale with my equally as crazy pal (hi Bonnie!) to line up for Versace for H&M. We arrived at Yorkdale at 4:45 am. There was already a long line ahead of us. We stupidly thought everyone would be lining up inside already. We definitely were not dressed properly for this (wool coats were not the best choice of outerwear for standing out in the cold for long periods of time). Here's how it all went down:

1. Around 5:00 am we were handed numbers. 121 people crazier ahead of us!

2. Into the mall at 5:30 am, lucky for us we were only out in the cold for 45 minutes.

3. It's now 7:00 am, we get wristbands! Notice how our numbers got bumped up one from the tickets we got handed before? The guy who was trying to sell his place in line ahead of us probably didn't make the sale and left! Luck is on our side now, we are now slotted in two different shopping times. This means a better chance at snagging what we want in the size we want.

4. The first 20 people have gone in now. It's 7:50 am. At 8:00 am they will go into the designated shopping area. The first person in line at Yorkdale had been there since 2:00 pm the day before!

5. We can look at the fenced off shopping area. It's 8:15 am. Bonnie won't be going in until 9:40 am. I won't go in until 10:00 am. Anxious waiting resumes.

hm versace2

It's all over! That's me dressed in comfy clothes and looking super tired at 11:00 am!

I ended up getting the red dress from THIS post, both silk scarves, the red enamel flower ring (gold was sold out by the time I got to shop!) and THIS book set, which I've had my eye on forever but couldn't part with $50 for. I'm guessing the publisher did a special run of these books for H&M at a special price, I picked it up for only $17.95.

Love the prints on these scarves!

Close up of the ring.

i said maybe, you're gonna be the one that saves me

[top: H&M | blazer: Zara | pants: GAP | shoes: Aerosoles]

Something about the equestrian look really appeals to me. It might be because it is a classic preppy look, that or I secretly want to be a jockey. Excuse the messy bed head look, this is basically what my hair looks like when it air dries. I have natural waves which are more prominent when I get layered haircuts.
One thing that can be painful about photography is finding the right lighting. My blazer is actually black and my blouse a champagne colour, but stark sunlight washes both out. Somehow they read navy and off white? I do enjoy the monochromatic trend that seems to be popping up in magazines and runways, but I still wish the photos were true to the colours of the outfit. Oh well, next time.

nothing compares, no worries or cares

I love anything that is cut asymmetrically and drapey and this tunic is no exception. I mulled over it many times and kept going to Holt Renfrew to check it out. So I ended up buying it back in September as a birthday present for myself. It looks really cute layered over a simple bandage mini and bare legs, but it's getting too cold for that now. I guess I will have to wait until spring rolls around to wear it that way. Jeans will have to suffice for now.

PS. I really did end up waking up super early for Versace for H&M last Saturday! I promise that my next post will be about that crazy adventure and what I ended up buying from the collection :)

can’t erase, so i’ll take blame

I spent most of last year hunting for suspenders before finding these shorts from Zara. Don't ask me why I was obsessed with suspenders all of a sudden, because I have no idea. Don't we all want things sometimes with no explainable reason? Or that could just be me.
I don't think I've found the perfect outfit with them yet, but they are comfy bottom for casual weekends.

dancing in the dark

As the weather cools down I can't help but be drawn to more darker outfits. Maybe it's the shorter days, or maybe because all they sell during the fall/winter is dark or muted colours. I guess this type of colour palette just suits the weather and anyways, I do enjoy how crisp and clean simple black and white looks.

Magnetic polish! So fun, even my dad thought it looked cool, haha.

tear me down they can't take you out of my thoughts

Like most, I gravitate towards dark clothing in the colder seasons. After a couple of days of dark clothing, it can be refreshing to interject a bright pop of colour. I think I also need pops of colour on days when I feel physically drained. No matter how often I promise to get to bed earlier, but it never pans out. I'm starting to notice how prominent my eye bags are now, but I think the hot pink bouse distracts attention from it, or at least until I pointed it out.

Also an currently loving the combo of gold and pink! Maybe its time to try a moon manicure of the two together.

warm autumn days

I have to say, I can't complain about the fall we have been having so far. It's been really warm for autumn overall. Warm enough to wear this outfit for sure, although, I did have a light jacket with me.

Side note about the jeggings, they are the most comfortable pair I own. Also a STEAL for $40 at a sample sale. $40 for Miu Miu? Sold!

but one last time let's go there

Saturday is finally here! I felt like this week was dragging on and on. Since I'm boring, I'm posting another H&M dominated outfit. I love their blazers and must have at least 6-7 in my closet. I work in an business casual environment, so I never have to wear them in a formal way. 99.9% of the time I pair them with more casual pieces and roll up the sleeves to prevent looking too stuffy.

fall into me

I think the thing I love most about dressing for fall is wearing tights. Tights with shorts, tights with skirts, tights with dresses! Plus the added layer (even when it's thin) makes a world of difference in warmth, especially for those warm days that turn into chilly nights. Unfortunately, I ruined the pair of tights I'm wearing in this photo by not wearing socks over them. The day's worth of walking around in those boots made my tights pill up like there's no tomorrow. Lesson learned!

but it flew away from her reach, so she ran away in her sleep

RIP faux leather jacket! This will be the last outfit post with it. I had to retire it after 3 years since I'm terrible at taking care of clothes. Unlike most people I know, I enjoy rain and don't mind walking outside without an unbrella. I'm not saying I like being outside when it is a torrential down pour but if its just regular rain I don't mind. There is something calming and soothing about rain to me.
I don't carry any valuables on me and I don't wear any makeup except waterproof mascara & gel liner so I have no qualms about getting wet.

The only thing that suffers would be my clothes. I would say lesson learned but that would be a lie. Come those April showers next spring I'm surely to repeat the same mistakes.

On the plus side, I'm now on the hunt for a replacement and contemplating investing in a real leather jacket now.

hear my thoughts in every note

I was looking through my Flickr when I discovered this set of photos which I forgot all about! This was from the end of summer, one of the last few outfit shots taken while I was working at my internship.

The top is by some random unknown label I found at Winners. It's actually marked a size 10 but I found it in the "small" section. I'm really open to trying clothing in any size because not all brands and labels are created equally. On another note, I also like my sheer tops looser so that they are flowier.

you start to wonder why you're here not there

Another overdue post from late summer. I never realized how much of my closet was comprised of items from H&M until I started blogging. I would blame it on working 2 minutes away from one, but my closet was already packed with H&M prior to my office's relocation.
My affinity for bows must be obvious as well. Looking back at my posts, I'm wearing something with a bow, more often then not.

On to the outfit at hand. I got this pale pink (unfortunately, the lighting in the photos washes out the colour) shift dress last fall and grew to enjoy it so much, that I purchased another one in black, when it came out this year. Does anyone else have a habit of buying backups in other colours?
