J Buys: L'Oreal Warehouse Sale

Yes, I'm at it again! Shout out to my friend Bonnie for letting me be her +1 for the L'Oreal Warehouse Sale.

The sale runs September 17th to October 9th, but is only open Wednesdays to Sundays. Definitely much smaller than the Estee Lauder/MAC sale, but still a lot to choose from. This sale is really great if you use a lot of drugstore brands. In terms of department store brands, I did see a small selection of Lancome, Biotherme and Shu Uemura.

We hit the sale on a Thursday night after work, so it wasn't too crowded. There is enough room to even maneuver a small shopping cart around. Again I didn't buy too much at this sale, but am happy with my buys!

My buys:
  • L'Oreal Elnett Satin hairspray $6
  • Garnier Fructis shampoo/conditioner $2 each
  • Essie nail polish $5
  • L'Oreal lipstick $3 each

and i'm ready to go, lead me into the light

Transitioning from summer to fall always either makes me extra hungry or extra tired. I've been feeling low in energy lately, which translates into lazier outfits. One of the best things about having staples in your closest, is that its hard to go wrong when putting them together. Maybe I'll do a future post about my wardrobe essentials, if our very few readers are interested.

Just for the record, there was no premeditated intent to go for a Colonel Sander's inspired look! I simply just adore red, black, and white together. Something, which is actually most likely inspired by Mondrian. (Credit goes to anyone who understands my De Stijl reference!)

this one's for you and me, living out our dreams

Somewhere along the lines I've developed a love for large rings. The only downside is that I have really skinny fingers and I can just barely fit a size 6 on my index and middle fingers...That doesn't stop me from buying them though. I remember I bought this particular ring with M. She was actually the one that found it in the messy sale jewellery pile at Banana and exclaimed "look how LARGE this thing is!" It was love at first sight, haha.

and I'm aiming right at you, right at you.

Current ongoing obsessions: tights and double finger rings.

My collection of tights can fill an entire drawer...or two. Considering that I only started wearing them about 3 years ago, I think I am tiptoeing that line between normal and excessive.

They serve so many purposes; keeping my legs warm, preventing underwear exposure, and adding a pop of colour to my weekend wear. Tights also visually counterbalance shorter hemlines, and help avoid looking too undressed. (FYI - I'm also wearing shorts under my dress and over my tights.)

Double finger rings I just enjoy because they are different. No other type of jewelry garners more comments than these types of rings. Strangely enough, it is men who point them out more frequently, because they are reminded of brass knuckles. Perhaps, secretly, I wear them to channeling my inner badass... LOL (if you knew me, you would know that would be the last adjective to describe me!)

summer, I miss you

It's amazing how quickly the weather changes here in the city. This photo was taken only a couple of weeks ago and now I wouldn't even dare step outside dressed like this. I actually bought this dress two summers ago and it quickly became one of my faves. Looks like I'll be packing it up for the season now. See you next year favourite summer dress!

consumed with what's to transpire

There is only about a week left before fall is officially upon us. The drop in degrees means layers and therefore, exponentially more options when getting dressed in the morning. My jackets and cardigans rejoice!
While I do try out some trends, I tend to stick to staples that can be worn again and again. One of the first things I reach for in autumn is this faux leather jacket. It instantly makes an outfit look more put together. For this outfit, it works as a contrast to balance out a more feminine skirt. As I write this however, in hindsight, I think prefer it with a white blouse and a pair of dark wash jeans.

J Buys: Estee Lauder/MAC Warehouse Sale

Last Friday I had the opportunity to attend the Estee Lauder/MAC cosmetics warehouse sale. The sale is by invite only and happens a couple of time a year. I first heard of it a few years ago and always wanted to check it out, but never was able to get tickets! FYI, I got tickets through a friend I met over the summer who happens to be an Estee Lauder beauty advisor! She's the best!

Please excuse the poor quality of the following two pictures, M (and her DSLR) was unable to join me at this sale, so I brought my mom instead. I tried to "stealthily" snap some iPhone photos of the crowd lol...

The sale opened at 10am, I got there at 9:20am and already there were this many people ahead of me. There was a surprisingly large amount of men accompanying their wives and girlfriends at this event!

The line was out the door by 9:45am!

My "haul", clockwise from the front:
  • MAC false lashes $4
  • Clinique Even Better skin tone corrector $30
  • Estee Lauder facial scrub $12
  • MAC select sheer loose powder $0 (free gift)
  • Estee Lauder & MAC lipsticks and lipglosses $10 each

My mom did more damage than me and bought a lot of Estee Lauder skincare. I didn't spend a lot because I've learned over the years from many sample/warehouse sales, it's only a deal if you use what you buy!!

There was a lot of selection at this sale from a variety of brands. Mostly I saw Estee Lauder, MAC, Clinique, Origins, a little bit of Bobbi Brown and miscellaneous perfumes (Coach and DKNY are the only two I can remember).

Overall, the sale was better than I expected and everyone was very civilized. Minimal pushing and shoving for the most part. The only disappointing thing was that they didn't have the $5 charity packs (of miscellaneous MAC cosmetics) that I heard were available at previous sales.

when the gusts came around to blow me down

When I'm not sure what to wear on weekends, all-in-one pieces are my default. This is the only romper that I have because I have a love-hate relationship with them. Honestly, they make going to the washroom 1000x more complicated. Still, I like to change it up every now and then. When I get bored of dresses or don't want to worry about wardrobe malfunctions (a la Marilyn Monroe), they are the perfect solution.

Hope everyone is having a good one!

I'd rather be a comma than a full stop

This See by Chloe bag was probably one of my favourite purchases of the summer and I've been wearing it with almost everything. When I first saw it, I knew I had to have it. It's all kinds of girlie with a bow on top of the strap, scalloped edges and very, very "me"! (Also managed to wait long enough for it to go on sale and ended up buying it for a great price!)

you've got my heartbeat runnin' away

It's official: I'm in love with this blouse. I found it on my first thrifting experience this past summer. On the hanger it was shapeless and baggy, several sizes too big (size 10) and missing a button. However, the gold nautical buttons with anchors, the shade of bright blue and the shoulder tab detail sold me. I tried it on and ended up loving how it draped.
Only recently have I started being able to see the potential in items with ugly hanger appeal. Sometimes, articles of clothing like people can't be judged by first impressions. They need a second chance, they need to be tried on, because they could turn out to be just what you needed.

Ignore the camera lens cap in my back pocket. I forget more often than not to put it in my purse.

tabula rasa

[dress: H&M | shoes: ALDO | watch: Michael Kors]

This blog has been almost a year in the making, but we've made it! To start off, I'm Jenn...I'm in my 20s and love fashion so much that I'm back at school working towards making a career out of it.

PS. Ignore me squinting in this photo set...This is what I get for wearing work clothes to the CNE and not bringing a hat and sunglasses!

[top, pants, scarf: H&M | belt: Joe Fresh | bracelets: Forever 21 | shoes: GAP]

I'm Min and I met Jenn in our freshmen year in high school. We compliment and contrast each other in many ways, which I'm sure you'll come to see as this blog grows.

The CNE has been a tradition for us since high school. We mostly go for the food building and cute game prizes. Since we could only fit this trip in on a weekday I stuck to classic pieces. I wore this to the office with a blazer and just took it off at the fair.

We hope you'll join us on our journey as we try to document our style through outfits of the day (OOTD) and other miscellaneous fashion musings.
